The last victim of abductions of the Turkish state was Arif Komiş, a chemistry teacher in Malaysia. Komis was under the protection of the United Nations when he was taken to Turkey by force.
BOLD – Police from the Malaysian Immigration Bureau detained Arif Komis, the director and a teacher of Hibiscus International School, with his family the night before. Komis, with his wife and four children, was kept overnight at the immigration office in Kuala Lumpur. Arif Komis was taken to Turkey this morning.
It was stated that the charges on the Komis family, and the abduction of Arif Komis who are protected by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is contrary to international conventions since asylum seekers from the United Nations should be kept under protection until the request is finalized.
A CHEMISTRY TEACHER
It was learned that Komis, who is a chemistry teacher and a director in one of the Turkish schools, could not receive a passport for his newborn child from the Turkish Embassy of Malaysia. Consequently, Komis family could not leave Malaysia.
After graduating from Marmara University, Arif Komis worked as a chemistry teacher in the Turkish schools in Kazakhstan, then he returned to Turkey to perform his military service. Later, he served in Tajikistan and conducted many international science projects. He won over 50 achievement medals with Tajik students. He has also completed a Master’s degree in chemistry and his last workplace was in Malaysia.
PREVIOUS ABDUCTIONS IN MALAYSIA
In May 2017, there had been two abductions on the basis that they were affiliated with the Hizmet Movement. The abductees were Turgay Karaman (43), the director of Time International School, and Ihsan Arslan (39), a tradesmen in Kuala Lumpur for a long time.
